Gauteng North Fly Fishing Association plans and executes five trials per year, designed to allow a fair opportunity for all anglers to demonstrate their angling skills across all fly fishing disciplines.  The trials reward the experienced, practiced and prepared angler, and results in a ranking list for all our competitive categories: Seniors, Ladies and Youth.  We combine all our competitive categories in every trial, ranking all trial competitors according to their performance overall in each trial, and then separating the categories and ranking the anglers in their respective teams.  The combined trial score is calculated at the end of the trial set, and results in the selection of the teams to compete in the National events of the year following the trial set.  We are regularly assessing the trial formats, and innovating to improve as many aspects of the trials as possible, so as to select the best teams for competitive events, and to simultaneously create the best opportunities for experience and development for all our anglers.

This year's trial set has been very successful, and the efforts of the Exco team and each trial's volunteer trial committee has been rewarded with well executed trials, in spite of sometimes challenging circumstances (mostly unforeseen weather and water conditions).

The size of our province membership creates opportunity for very social and interactive trials.  We have a great deal of fun, both on and off the water.  The inclusion of the juniors in our trials creates an added element of multi-generational interaction, and often the juniors teach the seniors, as much as it goes the other way around.
